SANTORINI DAY TWO: RAINY DAYS

Well I woke up this morning expecting to go on a boat tour to a hot spring but instead it decided to rain for the first time in months here in Santorini. It was actually really nasty with the wind being really strong and the rain came down literally all day. We were super bummed but we made the most of it. I did not use my Canon this day so all of my pictures are lame Iphone ones but they'll do.
We decided to eat breakfast, made by Dimitris of course like every other morning. Every morning since I have been here I get a crepe with nutella and bananas, drizzled with strawberry syrup and two fried eggs with white toast. Both are delicious and I get both the salty and sweet in one sitting!
After all my friends finished their breakfast they headed back to the room to work on papers and relax and watch Netflix. Instead of sitting in the room I decided to sit and talk with Dimitris for what ended up being about three or four hours. I would like to do a single post on Dimitris, sort of like a bio post on him so watch out for that!

The rain continued on past 2 o'clock so we were inside the entire day. Peyton and I got a special treat and we were able to go to a local restaurant, Kritikos for lunch with Dimitris. He never gets time off but the owner of the hotel allowed him to take us to lunch for an hour. It was so cool to walk into a local restaurant with a Greek friend. Everyone in the restaurants here in Greece are so friendly and so helpful. You could have them run back and forth a million times and they would never get discouraged.
The portions were HUGE. Dimitris and I ordered pork that had some sort of seasoning on it and Peyton ordered a chicken plate, both which came with fries. To share for the table we ordered a Greek Salad and tzatziki with bread. The feta cheese on it was AMAZING. I have never tasted cheese as good as that before. And if you know me I have never been one to really enjoy cheese but since being abroad I have had a lot of it and its all so good!

After lunch Peyton and I stayed back while the rest of the girls went for a late lunch together. Peyton and I relaxed for a little while, edited some pictures and then headed to Fira to find the rest of the girls. We all shopped around for a while and had some Gelato. Two Brothers Bar is a small, more like very tiny bar in Fira. Since it was Halloween there were a bunch of people promoting with "buy one get one free cocktails". We decided to give it a shot and see how it was inside and by the end of the night we were so glad that we stayed.
We made a bunch of friends and Dimitris met us there after his shift at the hotel. All of the drinks that we ordered had funny names but were so so good. Hannah and I shared the Blue Lagoon and Lava Flow. Peyton and Kat decided to go for an "AMF" aka "Adios Mother Fucker." I'm sure that you could imagine what was in that haha. The table we were sitting at bought us a bottle and it came out to the table with a flame shooting out of it. That was something special.
The bar was decked out in Halloween decorations and the staff was all dressed up in costumes with some pretty gnarly halloween makeup. We danced till pretty late and then headed back to the hotel. It was a super fun night and I am glad that we got to go out at least one night in Greece but I am sure that we will go out again knowing this group of girls.
One thing that I dislike about the bars and restaurants here in Santorini are that they all allow smoking inside. The US does not allow people to smoke inside anymore so I'm definitely not use to sitting in a room smelling it while I eat or have drinks. Another popular thing here is hookah.
Since this post is a little shorter I figured that I would share some basic information on Greece that I have learned since I have been here. Santorini is a greek Island and is known to be one of the best for sunsets and scenery. People also recognize Santorini the most for its white red and black sand beaches. The traditional houses are pretty much all painted white, many with colored doors or blue roofs.
When visiting Santorini I have been told to visit Fira, or Oia. These are the towns on the cliffs, which are very beautiful and full of little cafes, restaurants and shops. There is a bus that goes to the beaches everyday, and it is much better to be in the towns in the evening and on the beaches during the day. Fira the capital of Santorini is built on the edge of the caldera at the west side of the island. In Oia you get the best sunsets, and both Oia and Fira are excellent towns for walking around and shopping. When trying to get from place to place, getting around Santorini is very easy since it is a small island. There are local buses that can take you to most places, but you can also rent a car, bike, scooter or quad.
Although it is the end of the season, heading into low season I am still glad I came. It is a little colder than I was hoping for it to be while I am staying here, especially because I came from Ireland where it was already pretty cold. I definitely think that I will come back to Santorini in the summertime and I can't wait.
Sorry this post was a mish mosh of stories but hopefully there will be no more rainy days!
Cheers, Nikki
