SANTORINI DAY FOUR: WINE TOUR

Today was an easy morning. I woke up, had breakfast made by Dimitris of course, and then we headed into Fira for a Wine Tasting Tour! The night before Peyton had talked to a lady who worked at the restaurant and she had told us to come back the next day for the wine tour, and so we did.
For 15 euro we took the tour at a restaurant called Pelican Cafe and Wine Restaurant. The family who owns it actually lives right on the same property as the restaurant and opened the outside seating to it right in their garden. They also grow their own grapes for the wines in the garden! How cool is that?
10 meters under the garden, was the wine cellar. It is inside of a 400 year old vaulted cave. We were served a plate of bread and assorted cheeses along with the six different types of wine that we tasted.
My favorite wine we tasted was the red Vin Santo 2007 dessert wine. I am not one who usually goes for a glass of wine, but this on was so good. It is a super sweet dessert wine that is usually served after a main course. The sweetness is what got me to like it for sure. They even served it with a mini bar of dark chocolate.
I can't quite remember the lady's name who did the tour for us but she was wonderful. She was so helpful and wanted to make sure we got the most out of the tasting, especially because we were one of her younger groups! She really did a great job and I am glad that we got to do the tour.

Wine Tip: Hold your glass by the stem! If you hold it by the actual glass part you are warming the wine faster, by something like 36 degrees!
Cheers, Nikki
